Michael Costello and Project Runway all stars dazzle Fashion Week El Paseo
Brava to Susan Stein, Fashion Editor at Palm Springs Life, and Director/Producer of the 12th Annual Fashion Week El Paseo, for snagging American Fashion Designer Michael Costello & the Project Runway All Stars.
Costello's international career was launched by his popularity on Lifetime's Project Runway and All Stars 8th season which aired in 2010. That exposure helped create his brand that has blossomed into a worldwide household name. His dresses dominate the red carpets of award shows, from the Grammys to the Oscars.
Costello, a self-taught prodigy, has created a fashion empire by making women feel beautiful. His appreciation for feminine beauty is apparent in his designs that push the boundaries of fashion to create the next bold fashion statement. Costello has designed for stars like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga. His work has been featured in The New York Times, People, Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair. His dresses are also on display at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
The All Stars joining him at Fashion Week El Paseo included Chris March, Christopher Palu, Char Glover, Jesus & Antonio - Estrada, and Stello, all of whom were finalists on the TV show. Although I am no fashion critic, the evening was thrilling for many of our local "Real Housewives of the Desert" and to the many young-to-ageless fashionistas seated along the runway. Nearly a thousand guests enjoyed the designs of these young and provocative designers. Men and children's designs were also featured along with the women's casual and eveningwear.
THE NEXT GENERATION
Fashion Week El Paseo has long been a contributor to the Fashion Scholarship Fund YMA (founded in 1937) in New York for young designers. In honor of their 80th year, Susan Stein stated, "I believe the fund will help educate the next Michael Costello" then she added, "my hope is that we're inspiring and maybe helping other people in the industry, and that we're creating a beautiful, bright future."
Fashion Week El Paseo Title Sponsors Raju and Jaishri Mehta of El Paseo Jewelers held court in the VIP Tent during most of the pre-show parties, shows, and after-parties. Other major sponsors included the City of Palm Desert, Gardens on El Paseo, RBC Wealth Management, Franklin Loan Center, Palm Springs Life, Donna MacMillan, John and Victoria Hill, EFFEN Vodka, and others.
Among the 1000 fashionistas seen seated along and near the runway were Sarah Milmet, Marylynn Gladstein, Sherri Breyer, Mark Smith, Jan Ray, Rod and Jenell Vandenbos, Jack and Gail Witlin, Tony and Karen Barone, Michael Childers, Mitch Blumberg, Pattie Daly Caruso, and Palm Desert Mayor Jan Harnik and her daughter Erica.
