Another store pulls Ivanka Trump's fashion line as pressure mounts from critics
Last week it was announced that Nordstrom would no longer be stocking the first daughter's eponymous range and now upscale retailer Neiman Marcus has also pulled stock from her jewellery line at its stores.
"Neiman Marcus has a very small Ivanka Trump precious jewelry business which is comprised 100 percent of consigned merchandise (merchandise owned by the vendor). Based on productivity we continuously assess whether our brands are carried in stores, on our website, or both," a statement from the store read.
Similarly, Nordstrom said the decision was based on poor performing sales.
"We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance … In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season. Nordstrom ordered both apparel and shoes for the spring, and followed through with the orders on the apparel.
"They cancelled the shoe order, kept the apparel order, and moved the apparel from online into stores. It’s there," a spokesperson said amid the furore when the news broke.
Shannon Coulter, who help establish with the #grabyourwallet campaign, which encourages ethical spending, has been actively criticised stockists of her label and she has thrilled that some brands are finally listening.
"The cause and effect here is very clear. Over 230,000 Tweets and who knows how many millions of dollars’ worth of missed purchases later, they finally heard us," she said of the decision.
Ms Coulter is now putting pressure on Macys to drop the line and while the company has not yet commented on the campaign, CEO Terry Lundgren said in 2015 that they "don't want to be a politically associated company", having pulled Donald Trump's clothing line after his remarks that Mexicans are rapists.
While Ivanka's role in the White House is unclear, she attended a strategy and policy forum with chief executives of major U.S. companies on Friday.
She resigned from her position as president of the company which runs her lifestyle brand and her executive position in the Trump Organisation to move to Washington D.C. to work as what is an assumed unofficial advisory role to her father.
Senior director of marketing at Ivanka Trump Rosemary K. Young issued a statement to Vanity Fair addressing the ongoing controversy.
"The Ivanka Trump brand continues to expand across categories and distribution with increased customer support, leading us to experience significant year-over-year revenue growth in 2016. We believe that the strength of a brand is measured not only by the profits it generates, but the integrity it maintains," she said.
"The women behind the brand represent a diverse group of professionals and we are proud to say that the Ivanka Trump brand continues to embody the principles upon which it was founded.
"It is a company built to inspire women with solution-oriented offerings, created to celebrate and service the many aspects of their lives.
