If you have an Android phone, you know it comes with many preinstalled Google apps, such as Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps. In future Android versions, another Google app might be automatically added to the mix.

It appears that Fitbit is making its way to Android phones as a default app, much like Google Maps or Gmail. This surprising shift was first spotted on the newly launched Oppo Find X8 series, where Fitbit has replaced Google's own fitness tracking app, Google Fit.

With that said, it's still good to see companies pushing tech further, since it's bound to find its way stateside in some way, shape, or form. And while it's unclear just how this will all manifest, we do have one indication from this recent Oppo release that could see its way into new devices in the near future. But it's not the way you think.
Ordinarily, a brand-new Android phone will come with an extensive selection of pre-installed apps from Google, including Google Search, Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Home, Messages, Drive, Photos, Meet, Google Wallet, YouTube Music, and Find My Device. Not all need to be added but most do come bundled in. On top of that, you may also get OEM versions of each of these creating lots of duplicate options to achieve similar things.
I’m not sure if having another native Google app preinstalled on my phone is significant, especially considering that Fitbit will likely replace Google Fit in the lineup.
The news outlet thinks that this is the start of something new, with more manufacturers set to continue this trend with future device releases. For the most part, the writing has been on the wall for quite some time, with Google completing its Fitbit acquisition back in 2021. And while the two apps have co-existed for some time now, Google has slowly begun integrating Fitbit into parts of its products and services, pushing out Google Fit.
For years, Google Fit has been the default fitness tracking application on Android phones. On Pixel Watch, Fitbit is a core part of the exercise and fitness tracking system.
Since Google’s acquisition of Fitbit and the recent push to integrate the service into more areas—including the Pixel Watch lineup—it has felt like a forgone conclusion that it would eventually replace the Fit application.
