The pair of trousers that’s divided the Vogue India office

The question is… are we ready for their return?

After a quick poll at the Vogue India office, which included many all-caps “NEVER EVER” responses, it’s clear that not everyone is very excited about the return of the stirrup.

That being said, the ones who have favoured it, believe that if styled correctly (don’t worry we’ve got a couple of tips below) this trend could actually look—dare we say it?—cool.

Our Vogue.in fashion writer, Rujuta Vaidya, is all for giving it a shot, “I would absolutely try it. Would we have seen the return of the choker or the flared jean, or dramatic ruffles for that matter, if someone didn’t figure out a way to tailor it to the modern times? I’m all for renewing passing trends. ‘Try it before you rule it out’ is what I believe.”

Creative director, Jolie Wernette Horn, is over it: “Nope. Been there, done that. Too much of a middle school flashback for me.”

Senior fashion editor, Priyanka Kapadia, already has her look set: “Would definitely try them, and most likely a black trouser version with a rock band tee and lace-up heels.”

Junior beauty editor, Sneha Mankani isn’t about to start working out for the love of fashion: “No. Maybe if I were into aerobics. But I’m not, so no.”

Copy chief Shalini Shah believes the power of a heel is all you need: “I totally would. We’ve seen a lot of ‘questionable’ comebacks in the recent past—velvet pants, Lurex, mom jeans—so these aren’t the worst things to have happened to our wardrobes. Heels are essential though.”

Associate fashion features director, Priyanka Khanna, would wear them under one condition: “The only way I’d wear this ’80s favourite this winter is with a cosy oversized knit. It’s the perfect look for a lazy weekend.”

Other reactions included “no chance” “I just wouldn’t” and the ever so popular “hell no”.
