Sony's highly anticipated WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones have appeared in multiple regulatory listings, signaling an imminent launch. While initial rumors suggested that both the WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM6 would debut before July 2025, recent findings indicate that Sony may opt for a staggered release schedule rather than launching both devices simultaneously.
Sony's Release Strategy: WH-1000XM6 Comes First

Speculation about the WF-1000XM6 and WH-1000XM6 has been circulating for months, partly due to Sony's lack of new releases in these series since May 2023, when the WF-1000XM5 was introduced (currently priced at $248 on Amazon). Meanwhile, the WH-1000XM5 is nearing its third anniversary, having launched just under two years after its predecessor, the WH-1000XM4. This led to expectations that Sony would synchronize the WH-1000X and WF-1000X series launches this year.
Reports initially suggested that both models were planned for release before July 2025. However, recent regulatory filings imply otherwise. Sony seems to be taking a similar approach to its LinkBuds Open and LinkBuds Fit launches last year, where the two models were introduced at different times.
Regulatory Filings Confirm WH-1000XM6's Imminent Launch
Currently, only the WH-1000XM6 has appeared in regulatory databases, starting with the FCC in the U.S. The model has been repeatedly spotted in certification listings, alongside another upcoming device, the WF-C710N. In contrast, there have been no sightings of the WF-1000XM6 in any regulatory filings, making it increasingly likely that the WH-1000XM6 will launch first, with the WF-1000XM6 following at least a month later.
