New Delhi: The markets in the city have been infiltrated by Chinese mobile signal jammers, which are in violation of the Cabinet Secretariat's regulations that prohibit individuals from using or selling these devices. Recently, an illegal jammer was seized by police at Palika Market in Connaught Place.

Investigations are underway by the police to determine the source of these illegal jammers and to track down possible buyers, especially in light of the recent blasts in Prashant Vihar, Rohini, and the perceived threat of terrorism. There is a suspicion that a larger network may be involved in the importation of these jammers to disrupt communication. It is noteworthy that Palika Market and New Lajpat Rai Market are recognized for their sale of inexpensive electronic products, including those that are pirated or counterfeit.

Due to heightened security concerns, an operation was carried out by the Connaught Place police on October 24, leading to the arrest of a shopkeeper for possessing a mobile signal jammer unlawfully.

Identified as Ravi Shankar Mathur, 58, the suspect was found with a Chinese-made jammer that can block mobile phone signals. The police recovered this device, along with ten antennas and an electrical connecting wire, from a shop in Palika Bazar.

During the interrogation, Mathur was unable to supply any documents, such as invoices or licenses, to confirm his possession of the mini gps jammer. He maintained that he had purchased the device from the New Rajpath Rai market for Rs 25,000, with the aim of reselling it at an increased price.

The memorandum of seizure recorded the items taken, which featured a silver-grey gsm blocker with dimensions of 30x13 cm, containing 10 antenna jacks compatible with a range of mobile technologies, along with a manual that explained the device's features and how to install it.

The Department of Telecommunications has been alerted to the fact that it will carry out additional investigations regarding Mathur and will take the requisite legal actions against him.
