Panasonic has officially launched the world's smallest and lightest autofocus zoom lens for full-frame cameras, the Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3, which is an ideal match for the Lumix S9 mirrorless camera, and Panasonic has also released a major firmware update that will be available from 9 October.
With those two moves, Panasonic has made big strides in improving its polarising Lumix S9 for content creators, a camera that we labelled "small, simple, powerful, flawed" in our Lumix S9 in-depth review. With firmware version 1.1 installed, the S9 could be realising its potential as one of the best YouTube cameras, with the option to remove recording time limits, improved compatibility with the Lumix Lab app that now includes remote shooting, plus handy frame markers to show what's in your shot for up to three aspect ratios simultaneously.
In addition to new lenses and firmware updates, Panasonic has also announced the launch of the Lumix S9 in a ‘Smokey White’ colourway, priced the same as the other colours ($1,499/£1,499), as well as the Lumix S5D, a lower-cost version of the Lumix S5. Let's unveil everything you need to know about all of these versions! Let's reveal the key information you need to know about all of these versions.
