In the ongoing conflict between speeding motorists and traffic officers, a radar scrambler has emerged as the latest weapon. Americans can purchase this device for less than $100, while a more potent variant priced at $199.95 can even disrupt police liDAR and older RF radars. These scramblers outperform conventional radar detectors by emitting signals that confuse police radar, thereby hindering the accurate calculation of a driver's speed.
The use of radar detectors is banned in the UK, as well as in various European nations and some states in the US. Mike Churchman, the founder of Rocky Mountain Radar in Littleton, Colo., explains that scramblers operate differently from radar detectors and are not affected by the same legal restrictions. Scramblers employ a high-gain antenna to reflect incoming signals back to the radar gun, while simultaneously emitting an additional radio signal to confuse the receiver.
The higher-priced Phazer scrambler offered by the company features an infrared LED that emits invisible infrared pulses through the car's windshield. Lidar uses these pulses to gauge the distance of the vehicle. Nevertheless, speed measurements may be compromised as they rely on a series of distance readings.
According to Churchman, both Oklahoma and Minnesota have implemented laws to restrict our operations. The law in Minnesota came into force in August. Despite scrutiny from the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission, Churchman noted that no punitive measures have been taken against us.
Billions of dollars have been allocated by the Pentagon for electronic warfare systems that employ technology to obscure military aircraft from enemy radar. In a separate initiative, the Air Force is seeking to procure laser blocker to impede enemy navigation systems.
