The action camera market has long been dominated by expensive flagship brands, leaving budget-conscious adventurers with limited options. EZVIZ, a consumer brand under the surveillance giant Hikvision, entered this space with two compelling offerings — the S1C and the S2 — both designed to deliver solid performance without breaking the bank.
EZVIZ S1C: The Dual-Mode Pioneer
Launched in 2017, the EZVIZ S1C positioned itself as an innovative dual-mode action camera, functioning both as a sports camera and a dashcam. Measuring just 58mm × 45mm × 20.6mm and weighing only 77.3 grams, it is highly portable. The S1C is powered by an Ambarella A12 processor paired with a 1/3-inch CMOS sensor and a six-element HD lens, delivering up to 8MP still photos and 1080p video at 30fps. Its 140° ultra-wide-angle lens includes distortion correction, and the camera supports HDR, burst shooting of up to 15 photos per second, and time-lapse mode.
One standout feature is its dual-battery system: a 1160mAh battery for general use and an 800mAh high-temperature battery optimized for dashcam operation in hot vehicles. The S1C also includes dual microphones with wind noise reduction, a 2-inch touchscreen, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity.
EZVIZ S2: The Refined Upgrade
Released in late 2017, the S2 refined the formula with several key upgrades. At 76.8 grams, it remains just as portable while offering 1080p video at 60fps — double the frame rate of its predecessor for smoother slow-motion capture. The S2 also supports 720p at 120fps. Its lens widens to a 150° field of view with an improved F1.8 aperture and 3μm large-pixel sensor, significantly boosting low-light performance.
The S2 adopts a more refined design with a skin-like coating for better grip and introduces a third mode — live streaming — alongside sports and dashcam modes. It also features ADAS functions such as lane departure warning and forward collision alerts, making it a more capable dashcam.
Verdict
Both cameras are waterproof up to 40 meters with their included cases, support microSD cards up to 128GB (S1C) or 256GB (S2), and are controlled via the EZVIZ Sports app. The S1C is an excellent entry-level choice for beginners wanting both action and dashcam functionality. The S2, with its higher frame rate, superior low-light performance, and expanded features, is the better pick for users seeking smoother video and greater versatility.
