A lot of it comes down to the desired stats that make FIFA players good. While it changed a little in the latest iteration, pace is still the most important statistic, followed by strength. It doesnrsquo;t matter if your player is a tricky winger, a centre back, or a goalkeeper, those are the stats that matter. At the end of FIFA 22, Alisson Becker Team of the Year card was widely regarded as the best in the game, purely because it was the fastest. Irsquo;m serious.

That why you might see more Inaki Williamses than Karim Benzemas. Why more players prefer Real Madrid perpetually-underperforming Ferland Mendy to the far better rated Barcelona veteran Jordi Alba. It not all about pace though. Skill moves come into it, too, as well as the links that players provide to give each other chemistry. Sticking to one league makes it easier to build a team, but that still doesnrsquo;t explain why any IRL manager would pick Ferland Mendy over Jordi Alba. However, another important attribute is a player body type. Some of the top stars have unique bodies based on their IRL shape; for instance Ronaldo has his special wide-legged free kick stance (although yoursquo;re probably more likely to curl it into the top corner than he is).

Other than the notable exceptions, the taller the body type, the worse your player is. Trent Alexander-Arnold has a unique body type, but only 76 pace, so yoursquo;ll rarely see his 87-rated card used in the game. At present, he costs 17,000 coins on the market. Reece James has more pace, but the lsquo;stockyrsquo; body type, meaning he feels horrible on the ball, seems to react more slowly than other players, and has the turning circle of a moon. Despite only having an 84 rating, Jamesrsquo; card costs nearly 3,000 coins more than Trent on the market. Then we have Kyle Walker. Walker has a unique body type and a massive 91 pace, which can be supplemented with a chemistry style to max it out. He costs 146,000 coins.

Walker pace puts him well clear of Trent and James, but why does he cost twice as much as PSG Achraf Hakimi, who is a FIFA staple? Hakimi has more pace than Walker, and great links to PSG broken players like Renato Sanches, Lionel Messi, Neymar, and of course, Mbappe.
