Teyana Taylor, Rita Ora and Travis Scott Cover 'Living For Fashion' Issue of 'Paper' Mag
Music and fashion have an undeniable attraction, and the two mediums have inevitably intertwined in recent years, as artists transform into designers and big-house brands tap musicians to spearhead fashion campaigns. Recognizing this intersection, Paper Magazine has tapped Teyana Taylor, Rita Ora and Travis Scott to front their “Living in Fashion” November issue. Here's the rundown on Paper's new cover stars.
Teyana Taylor
Teyana Taylor welcomed her first child into the world at the end of 2015, with fiancé Iman Shumpert of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Harlem musician has claimed 2016 as her year. Since January, she’s paid homage to rap great Lil Kim at VH1's Hip Hop Honors, released her own sneaker collaboration with Reebok, modeled for Kanye West’s highly anticipated Yeezy Season 4 debut at NYFW, and, of course, broke the Internet as she flaunted her post-baby physique in West’s Flashdance-inspired visual for “Fade”. "I honestly don't feel like 'Fade' would have had the same effect had I just been 21, hot body, single,” Taylor says in her interview for Paper.
The “Do Not Disturb” singer hasn’t allowed motherhood to slow down her growing brand, explaining: “You can be Superwoman. You can have it all, that balance in your relationship, your family and your career. It's the opposite of the cliché that says kids will slow you or your career down."
Rita Ora
After inking major fashion campaigns with DKNY, Roberto Cavalli and Adidas, Rita Ora just pocketed another major fashion deal, as she gears up to take her seat as the host of the newly resurrected fashion show America’s Next Top Model, premiering in December. Transitioning from pop princess to rising fashion icon, she aims to use her own experience as a pop culture star to guide inspiring models into the fashion industry. "We focus on how you're going to create a fanbase on social media, how you're going to make people want to imitate you," Ora details. "That for me is the difference between somebody who's just a regular model and somebody who's a superstar.”
Travis Scott
His voice is one of rap’s most ubiquitous sounds, and he's also one of the most sought after producers working today. In his interview with Paper, Travis Scott unveils that he’s working on a forthcoming fashion collaboration with a brand (whose name he didn’t reveal). “I just saw the samples -- fucking crazy,” Scott says. “I'm happy that this company took a chance with me."
Though his unconventional sound has found its way to high-profile 2016 projects from superstars Kanye West and Rihanna, it's his distinctive fashion style that's afforded him the opportunity to front fashion campaigns like the Fenty x Puma collaboration, and Alexander Wang’s SS16 campaign. Elsewhere in the interview, Scott also mentions that he’s preparing a short film which offers fans a behind-the-scenes look into the production process for his latest record Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight - the rapper-producer's first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.
