The Chinese workers who make designer bags in Tuscany

Unbeknownst to many, luxury fashion houses are using inexpensive immigrant labor in Tuscany to manufacture their designer "Made in Italy" bags. In a new piece for The New Yorker, one writer traveled to Prato, the Tuscan industrial zone that boasts the second largest Chinese population of any European city, to learn about the pay and working conditions of these Chinese-owned factories which assemble bags for famous brands like Gucci, Prada and Fendi. {The New Yorker}

British magazine covers were overwhelmingly white last year

The Guardian performed a study on the diversity of British magazine covers in 2017, and its findings reveal that the country's best-selling glossies were overwhelmingly white: Of the 214 covers published by the 19 most popular monthlies, only 20 featured a person of color. The lack of representation was seen across newsstands for women's, men's and children's magazines published in the U.K
