Thanks to people like Amanda Hearst and Hassan Pierre, who founded Maison-de-Mode.com—an online retailer of beautiful sustainable designer clothing—environmentally friendly fashion is more accessible than ever. Imagine repurposed fabrics, ethically sourced materials, upcycled beading, and vintage pieces that will look good forever. It’s all about reusing materials and ensuring newer things are made with the minimum environmental impact.

It’s actually luxurious and cool,” Hearst told ELLE.com at the Maison-de-Mode and Perrier-Jouët gala to celebrate sustainable style in Los Angeles. “I think that’s actually why we started the website. It was because we wanted to showcase that there are brands out there that meet the criteria of beauty and luxury that maybe people didn’t realize were ethical fashion.”

To prove her point, several designers created sustainable looks for the guests to wear to the gala. Rosario Dawson wore a show-stopping vintage-silk corset gown by Vivienne Westwood, while Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch wore Mary Katrantzou sustainable silk with reused Swarovski crystals, and Angela Bassett appeared in an iconic Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress made from upcycled fabric. Hearst herself wore a dress covered in upcycled Swarovski crystals, made by her cousin, designer Gabriela Hearst, who has long been using upcycled materials in her designs.
