There’s no disputing the fact that Jessica Gomes is genetically blessed with a flawless complexion. But, just like the rest of us, the model, actress and David Jones ambassador has some skin concerns of her own. “When my body clock isn’t in sync or I’m jetlagged, I really notice the effects on my skin - lots of air conditioning doesn’t help either,” she says. Thankfully, she has the beauty haul and expertise to counteract it. Most recently, Gomes founded Equal Beauty: a supercharged, results-driven line of skincare designed with every skin type, colour and gender in mind. Here, Vogue quizzes Gomes on her (minimal) beauty regimen and why her Perth upbringing has a lot to do with it.

What is your morning routine?

“I wake up and I cleanse my face with a tea tree cosmetic purity clean if I’m home and then I use a Beauty water from Bioderma. I then use my Equal Beauty Serum before putting on a SPF. I finish with a spray of Super Mist by Equal Beauty to hydrate, I always have this spray with me for an instant refresh, it’s like a drink for the skin.”

Your heritage is Portuguese and Chinese, did you learn any interesting beauty tips from your parents?

“My mum has amazing skin and always said less is more. I’m very low maintenance and I think this is from my upbringing in Perth. As long as I have a few select products that do the job I’m happy, I don’t like to overload my skin.”

What are your favourite skincare ingredients and why?

“Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid for sure! They’re the most important element to keeping your skin hydrated and protected, I made sure the Equal Beauty Super Serum has these ingredients. Also, amino acids which feeds the skin with antioxidants and reduce signs of aging.”

Do you notice a change in your skin when you travel?

“Yes, absolutely, I do I become very dry and sometimes have blemishes pop up. Your skin definitely reacts to the way you’re feeling on the inside so I try to stay hydrated and eat well so nourishment starts from within.”

What have you set out to achieve with Equal beauty that perhaps wasn't already available in Australia?

“Ultimately, I set out to make women and men feel secure within themselves. I think there’s a lot of advertising out there that makes us feel insecure. I was passionate about creating a skincare line for everyone &ndash; male, female, different races, all skin types as I believe everyone should feel beautiful.

Since launching, have your customers communicated to you what they love and perhaps, what they would like to see more of?

“Yes! SPF! Which I’m working on. It just takes so much longer than most products because of the testing. Sun protection is crucial in any skin care regime and I can’t wait to release this product.

Do you see a facialist? Do you notice a difference in your skin afterwards?

“I see Melanie Grant and Fumi Yamamoto. For me, it’s a nice balance between clinical and holistic. Melanie is so knowledgeable and has such a luxurious aesthetic which I love. She has changed my skin and I especially love having an Omnilux light treatment. Fumi on the other hand has taught me about the gut and spleen health which affects your overall well-being and skin. Fumi also does sculpting massage on the face so I feel chiseled before shoots.”

What is your fitness regimen?

“To be honest I haven’t seen a trainer this past year because a lot of my focuse has been on my beauty brand. My workouts are more holistic now and consist of hikes and yoga, this is so I can breathe and really enjoy a time out. I also do some dance band classes at Tracey Anderson.
