SYDNEY model Chantal Monaghan has led the way for the latest batch of Aussies to strut the catwalks of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

In her seventh consecutive year walking on the pinnacle of fashion stages Monaghan, although the last Aussie to walk this week, had the most prestigious position, leading the finale for legend designer Jean Paul Gaultier

“It’s so rare to book one show in Paris, let alone to do seven, and this time I lead the finale for the first time which was a pinch-yourself moment,” Monaghan told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

“To get the seal of approval­ from Gaultier is amazing and something I’m really proud of.”

Monaghan, who said she had built up a relationship­ with many of the top designers over the years, was joined at the Haute Couture shows by Newcastle’s Aleyna­ FitzGerald, fresh from winning Australia’s Next Top Model late last year.

FitzGerald made her debut at the Paris fashion week, walking for Giambattisa Valli and Rodarte.

Sydney-based Chic model management director­ Kathy Ward said walking at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week was the pinnacle in the career of all high fashion models.

“(It) is the ultimate opportunity for models,” Ward said. “It is exclusive and only a select number of girls are selected by the designers to represent their brands.

“For Chantal, her look is high-end and exclusive, which is what designers like JPG love to use on the catwalk.

“This will lead to more opportunities in high fashion and cements­ her reputation as one of Australia’s up-and-coming supermodels.”

Aussies have also been filling the coveted front rows.

Actor Naomi Watts took a break from publicising her new Netflix drama Gypsy to attend Georgio Armani’s exclusive fashion show.

Proving that she is an international big-hitter, Watts sat front row at the star-studded show alongside screen legend Sofia Loren and Kate Winslet.
