Designer Carolina Herrera had a clear mission statement when pulling together her Spring/Summer 2017 collection - to make effortlessly beautiful clothes that can be worn with ease.

And the style icon certainly succeeded, presenting an elegant collection of evening gowns that blended luxurious fabrics like tulle, lace and jacquard, while also putting an elevated twist on dress-down denim - turning the casual staple into a red carpet must-have worthy of even the most glittering of events.

Once again staging her New York Fashion Week show at The Frick Collection on the Upper East Side, Carolina, 77, wowed the star-studded crowd with her elegant and overtly feminine silhouettes, which were given an added edge courtesy of the sharp monochromatic patterns, bold metallics and blue denim.

Presenting her collection to an A-list crowd that included the likes of Nicky Hilton, Olivia Palermo, Kiernan Shipka and Malin Akerman, as well as Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, Carolina seamlessly 'blended day and night' in a way that few fashion designers have been able to do so successfully.

Adding another level of casual comfort to her otherwise glamorous designs, the style icon dressed each of her models in flat shoes, forgoing the traditional high heels that have become synonymous with evening wear in favor of satin and metallic loafers and brogues - no doubt a welcome change for the models as they made their way down the runway.

A splash of color was injected into the largely monochromatic designs courtesy of the models' bold red lip, which was paired with a sultry smoky eye to complete the look created by Diane Kendal for MAC Cosmetics.

The idea, Diane told WWD, was to create a look that could be worn for 'a night out'.

Finally, the models were given an incredibly sleek half-up hairstyle by Orlando Pita for TRESemmé, who told WWD of his creation: 'The look at Carolina is very graphic, it’s straight back, it’s a kind of very shiny texture so I’m using the serum on the back of the hair to keep it soft.

'[Then] I’m using a firm hold hairspray on the front, just so I get the same texture of shine, but one is actually holding and the other is actually softening.'
